Fascia is a 3D web of connective tissue that runs through your entire body to create its structure. You can compare the different layers of fascia in the body to an orange.
Below is a video on fascia and how it works within the body.
Trauma, daily life, and repetitive motions or positions can create fascial restrictions in your body. These restrictions can sometimes have the force of 2,000 lbs per square inch of our precious bodies. No wonder we can have such different and sometimes agonizing pains! The fascial system runs throughout your entire body, therefore effecting any system, be it muscular, circulatory, digestive, you name it!
Over time, as the fascial restrictions become tighter, they create a straitjacket over your body, giving you all kinds of different and seemingly unrelated, symptoms.
Myofascial Release removes the restrictions (strait jacket) from your body, allowing it the freedom to move again. This releases the 2,000 lb pressure, increases blood flow and nutrition to the cells, restoring you to a pain free, active lifestyle. A skilled John Barnes Therapist will look at and treat the entire body. Through courses and training, we are able to see and feel where fascial restrictions are located. Once a restriction is found, the therapist engages that restriction at the barrier and waits for it to release. The barrier is the point at which the fascial restriction is in a slightly stretched position. This position is held for 90-120 seconds, enabling the start of the release. Full release of the fascia occurs after 3-5 minutes. This allows the collagenous (80%) AND the elastic (20%) component of fascia to be released, giving you permanent relief.
